Formula DRIFT completed the third stop on the 2008 Championship Tour with Round 3: The Gauntlet at Englishtown Raceway Park. Defending champion Tanner Foust battled through the tough competition to take home the victory and take over the lead for the Castrol SYNTEC Power Cup.

“Due to the turn of events that lead to the closure of Wall Speedway, I commend the FD team, partners, and fans for embracing the quick change to Englishtown Raceway Park,” said Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. “I’d like to say a big thank you to Englishtown for squeezing us in right before their big NHRA race week.”

Entering Englishtown Raceway Park for the first time the Formula DRIFT Championship returned to the East Coast. The course layout featured a very high entry speed that lead to tight corners and with elevation changes the combination made for one very exciting competition. The track was very demanding and the drivers felt the pressure early on with cars going off-track and others hitting the K-rails.

“I like learning new tracks but this one certainly benefited the ultra horsepower cars on the long first corner,” said Tanner Foust, 2007 Formula DRIFT Champion and Round 3 event winner. “In the Finals, leading Tyler we topped 80 mph on the entry but he was only able to reel me in on the last turn giving me the advantage. Following the Porsche I focused on getting the best acceleration possible off the line so he couldn’t get out of reach.”

The Consolation Round pitted teammates Daijiro Yoshihara and his Bridgestone / RMR Pontiac GTO against Round 2 event winner Rhys Millen and his Red Bull / Pontiac Solstice GXP with Millen edging out Yoshihara for the 3rd spot on the podium. This was the 2nd time this season that the teammates faced each other in the TOP 16 competition and Millen has taken the advantage each time. The Final Round pitted a very determined Tyler McQuarrie and his Hankook / JIC-Magic Porsche 993 GT2 against defending Formula DRIFT champion Tanner Foust piloting the Rockstar / AEM Nissan 350Z with Foust taking the victory and the lead in the Castrol SYNTEC Power CUP Point Standings. This marks the first time that McQuarrie and the Hankook / JIC-Magic Porsche has stood on the podium.

The chase for the Castrol SYNTEC Power Cup heats up with 2007 Formula DRIFT Champion Tanner Foust leading the way. Following close behind are 2004 & 2006 Formula DRIFT Champion Samuel Hubinette and his BF Goodrich / Mopar Dodge Viper SRT10 and 2007 Tires.com Triple Crown Champion Chris Forsberg piloting the NOS Energy Drink Nissan 350Z with only 2 points separating the two drivers. The action continues on July 11 & 12 for Round 4: High Stakes at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Today was held the first event of three rounds of the DriftThing Nights Amateur Championship series. Faithfull to themselves, the DN organisation was well done and high in entertainment. Amateur drivers showed up earlier than usual to get their skills on the pavement and burn some serious rubber.

Despite the fact that the Autodrome St-Eustache could have been a bit more crowded, the lucky and sunburned assistance had more then enough excitment for their money. All day long, the DriftThing rock band shook the house with hardcore classics on a huge stage. To have a live band directly on the track addend a new dimension to the event and to be honnest, they sounded pretty darnn good !

Entertainment is the key word in Eric Belec's amateur drifting events. DMCC pro drivers smoked the crowd with insane demos and high speed competition. Speeking of high speed competition, J-F Chiasson defended his 120 km/h title with fierce and was crowned for doing it at 130 km/h. That beats Haig Kanadjian that got 127 km/h and Marco Santos that got a 126 km/h. Carl Nadeau tangled between his 240sx and the old Soarer beast ( and almost ran over one of our cameras) . Babu's Mustang even caught on fire while running in a demo...just the small usual oil on header kind of stuff! Dominic Desrosiers even brought his new ride, a pick-up Porsche with an aluminium V8. Special video interview is comming soon on the site...

Amateur drifters looked very happy of their day and proud of their "done it again" first place winner. Dave Perreault got the highest step of the podium followed by Tony Vachon that missed the podium by inches. They were both making perfect runs until the ultimate end where Tony's supercharged G35 spun out in the last entry zone while he was leading without any pressure. Mathieu Labelle finished third overall and burned the hell out of the place.

Stay tuned on CanadianDrifting for videos later this week. We work hard to make all of you tire smoke addicts happy each and every week ! We only had 3 stickers left so they went away in seconds...we are still waiting for a pretty darn good price to get new ones done, so you can all dress your ride with the latest in Drifting fashion !!

Canadian Drifting team was yesterday in Montmagny for the first 2008 DMCC event. Even worst than last year drivers broke their vehicle...  The day started with Kevin Grenier's car driven by one of the US judge that almost destroyed the car on the fast curve hitting the concrete block head first.  It continued with two small tire hits from Fred Girard, Robert Ricci than smashed head on concrete wall almost at the same place as Kevin and Scardocchio destroyed the wall sideways.

We found out lots of new drivers, some FormulaD drivers from FALKEN and BF Goodrich and over all, a lot of people, a lot more than I expected according to the bad weather.   We would also like to thank all the drivers that added CANADIAN DRIFTING vinyl on their cars, this support is very appreciated !

Pictures are online and be prepared for the awsome exclusive videos now taken by 2 different angles !

Congratulations to the winners, Marco Santos (Winner), Fred Girard (second) and Carl Nadeau (third)

Tyler Hall that have been pushed out from DMCC last year with some curious reasons did not tell anybody what's happening with his 2008 season.  Tyler finished third last year and he is one of the most regular, explosive and impressive DMCC drivers. We all hope he's comming back strongly this year.

I've spoken to Tyler yesterday and he has nothing to declare up to now. I'm suppose to talk to him soon maybe to get some fresh new within the next few weeks. We will let you know.

First of all, any driver that had a podium finish during the EDC during 2007 will not be eligible to compete in the BDC. Any driver not achieving a podium position during the 2007 EDC season may forfeit their EDC licence and compete in the BDC. Once an EDC licence is forfeited, a driver can only regain this by competing in the BDC.

Working together, the BDC and EDC have agreed to use the BDC as the feeder series to gain entry to the EDC. This applies to the BDC Pro class only.

The winner from each of the six rounds of the BDC will be given a free wild card entry in to the following round of the EDC. If the winning driver chooses not to compete in the EDC, the second placed driver will be offered the opportunity to compete, if that driver chooses not to compete then the third placed driver will be offered the place. If all three podium positioned drivers choose not to compete, the place will not be offered to any other driver.

A driver will be allowed 2 wild card entries per season and they will not be given to the same driver for consecutive rounds.

If a driver wins a wild card entry position for two events is succession, the wild card entry will be passed down the next eligible driver as long as that driver is in a podium position.

If a driver achieves a podium position at an EDC event they will have to remain in the EDC. If a BDC driver gains a top 8 position (not including a podium position) at an EDC event, they will be offered a full EDC licence; however these drivers then have to choose to complete in either the remaining BDC or the EDC series.

If a driver decides to compete in the remaining rounds of the EDC, the driver, if having paid for a full BDC campaign, they will receive a full refund for the outstanding rounds.

Any driver achieving a top 3 position in the EDC will not be eligible to compete in the BDC in 2009.

The winner of the final BDC round at Silverstone will also be given a wild card entry to the final round of the EDC in Poland. The overall winner of the BDC will be given a wild card entry in to the final round of the EDC in Poland plus a full EDC licence for 2009.

If the driver who wins the final round at Silverstone is the BDC champion then the second placed driver in the championship will be offered an entry to the EDC round in Poland.

BDC overall second and third place drivers will receive provisional licence for round 1 of the EDC in 2009. The BDC will financially help the 2 drivers competing in Poland to help cover travelling costs.
